How to hold your wine glass.

 

At some point or other, most of us have wondered what the correct way to hold a wine glass is. Does it even matter? Well, yes and no. The fact is, there is a right way to hold a wine glass. The fact also is,

you can hold your glass however you want -if you don’t mind looking unpolished, that is.

I mentally irk everytime I see someone holding a wine glass like this. I really do. I know some of our favourite TV stars (Hi Team Olivia Pope!) are holding their glasses like that on TV , so we’re all doing it -afterall, when in doubt, copy the stars, right? Wrong!

So how then are we supposed to hold a wine glass? By the stem or base, not by the bowl.

Why, you ask? It’s simple…

1. Holding the bowl of your glass leaves prints all over the glass, making it look messy.

2. Holding your glass by the bowl warms the wine up more than is recommended (yes, the temperature matters) which, in effect, alters its taste and reduces its enjoyability. It’s sort if like eating molten icecream. Whereas you can still eat it, it just won’t be the same.
